Besan Dhokla Ingredients:

  • 2 cups gram flour
  • 3 tsp semolina
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tsp ginger green chilli paste
  • salt as per taste
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda/eno
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Ingredients for Tadka

  • 5 -6 curry leaves
  • 4 green chillies
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • green coriander
  • salt as per taste

Method to make Besan Dhokla

  1. First of all, put gram flour in a big bowl, then add semolina.
  2. Slowly add water and mix with a large spoon for 10 -12 minutes so that it gets mixed well.
  3. Now, add turmeric powder, salt, lemon juice, baking soda/Eno to the mixture, mix well.
  4. Then boil water in the dhokla steamer.
  5. Now, apply some oil in the steamer plate and add the dhokla mixture.
  6. Steam the Dhokla for 15-20 minutes or until it comes out clean when pierced with a knife, then the Dhokla is ready.
  7. Now for tempering, place a pan on gas, add oil to it and heat it.
  8. Now add curry leaves, mustard seeds, green chillies and asafoetida in hot oil.
  9. After this add 1 cup water, salt and sugar as per taste and boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
  10. Now take out the dhokla from the steamer and keep it in a plate. Now cut it into pieces and then pour the prepared tadka over the dhokla.
  11. Now your soft and spongy Dhokla is ready.

  • Follow the correct application quantity, so that the dhokla becomes cool and fluffy.

  • To give taste to Dhokla, add some salt and asafoetida in gram flour.
